London, August 2026 — Opening in late September 2026, Relais d’Amboise, the latest addition to the Marugal Hotel Management portfolio, will debut as a five-star retreat in the Loire Valley. Combining two of Amboise’s historic properties – the celebrated Le Choiseul and Le Manoir des Minimes – into a single estate on the banks of the Loire River beneath the Royal Château of Amboise, the project marks one of the most significant hospitality openings for the region in recent years.
Following the success of Relais de Chambord, the project has been led by entrepreneur and philanthropist Frédéric Jousset through Artnova, an impact investment fund dedicated to preserving and enhancing cultural heritage. The architecture, landscape, historical memory, and cultural identity of the estate have guided every stage of the restoration and development of this new Loire Valley destination. The architecture and overall design of Relais d’Amboise was conceived by LBBA, which oversaw the transformation of this exceptional heritage property and designed its principal public spaces, including Le Choiseul restaurant and Le Turner rooftop bar.

Location
Set within the historic heart of Amboise, just moments from Clos Lucé – the final home of Leonardo da Vinci – Relais d’Amboise occupies one of the region’s most culturally significant settings with deep ties to the history of the French Renaissance. The estate spans multiple historic residences along Quai Charles Guinot, combining former noble residences, dramatic troglodyte caves carved into the limestone cliffs, restored gardens, terraces and riverside viewpoints.
Rooms and Suites
Featuring 63 rooms and suites, accommodation is spread across the estate’s different historic buildings, giving guests space and privacy. Loire-facing suites are filled with natural light, while château-view rooms frame the Royal Château of Amboise and the Renaissance skyline. Select rooms and suites open onto private terraces and garden spaces.
The interiors have been created by Fabien Roque and Roque Intérieurs, who designed every space within the hotel, including four suites carved directly into the rock and the spectacular spa hewn from the tuffeau stone. Artistic direction has been entrusted to Joséphine Fossey, whose vision creates a subtle dialogue between historic architecture, craftsmanship, contemporary design, and the surrounding natural landscape. Interiors will showcase natural materials, soft color palettes, and artisanal savoir-faire in an elegant, calming aesthetic inspired by the Loire Valley.
Food and Drink
Gastronomy will play a central role in the guest experience. Le Choiseul restaurant will present a menu created by Signature Chef Nicolas Aubry (one Michelin star at Restaurant Ezia) alongside Executive Chef Vincent Léger Blanchard, celebrating the finest seasonal ingredients and wines of the Loire Valley through a refined interpretation of contemporary French cuisine.
Le Turner Bar, the only rooftop bar in Amboise, will offer panoramic views over the Loire River and the Royal Château. Designed as a place for gathering and contemplation, it will welcome both hotel guests and locals with signature cocktails, Champagne, and prestigious Loire Valley wines. At sunset, reflections across the Loire and the château towers promise to make the rooftop one of the destination’s most sought-after meeting places.
Spa and Wellness
Deep within the estate’s historic caves and carved into the tuffeau stone of the Loire Valley, Spa des Roches – transforms ancient troglodyte galleries into a calm and cooling wellness sanctuary whilst preserving the natural texture and atmosphere of the caves. Developed in partnership with Clarins and myBlend, the spa will offer a curated selection of facial and body treatments, along with holistic massages inspired by wellness traditions from around the world. The wellness offering will also include a heated outdoor swimming pool, sauna, cold bath, sensory shower, steam room and a yoga platform overlooking the Loire.
Culture and the Arts
Remaining true to Amboise’s artistic heritage, Relais d’Amboise will also place culture and contemporary creation at the center of its identity. Les Greniers de César, the estate’s restored historic troglodyte galleries, will host exhibitions, artistic collaborations, private dinners, and cultural events throughout the year within their main gallery. A second gallery will become an interactive leisure space, while a third will serve as a wine-tasting cellar showcasing the expertise and traditions of Loire Valley winemakers. The property will also host a major site-specific exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Bernar Venet, presented as a carte blanche project in partnership with the Château du Clos Lucé and the Royal Château of Amboise.
Room rates start from 305 Euros per night.
